Swine Facility
Helping Ohio pork producers while training future animal care managers.
The ¿ì²¥µ¼º½ swine facility is a farrow-to-finish operation designed to give students real-world experience across every stage of production.
The program manages a 24-sow herd and produces more than 1,500 pigs each year, with about half raised to market weight on-site. Piglets are weaned at 18 days and move through a two-stage, environmentally controlled nursery before transitioning to the grower-finisher barn.
Students are involved in the day-to-day operation of the facility, building hands-on skills in baby pig care, reproductive management and live animal evaluation. They also gain experience using technologies like ultrasonics and computerized record-keeping — tools they’ll use in modern swine production.
