We'll help you plan your semester, register for classes and manage your course schedule when changes are needed.
Before you register, plan your courses with your academic advisor. Your advisor can help you choose courses that meet your degree requirements and keep you on track for graduation.
All students are encouraged to connect with their advisor during the first half of each semester to plan for the next term. You can review available courses and draft your schedule in , which is also where you鈥檒l complete registration later.
If you鈥檙e not sure who your assigned advisor is, you can find that information in Buckeye Link.
All students register for courses online during their assigned enrollment appointment. This is the specific date and time when registration opens for you.
You can find your enrollment appointment in under the Enrollment Appointment section. Select Details to view your exact registration window.
Buckeye Link is also where you鈥檒l search for courses, register, and view your class schedule.
If you need help during your enrollment appointment, support is available through your academic advisor. You can also contact Academic Affairs (Halterman Hall, Room 219) or, if applicable, a Buckeyes Excel advisor (Halterman Hall, Room 229).
After you register for courses, review your Statement of Account in to confirm your charges.
Fees are due one week before the semester begins, and late payment may result in a late fee. Paying on time also helps avoid registration or account holds that could affect your schedule.
If you have questions about how to pay, billing options or setting up payments, you can . This page explains payment methods, due dates and what to do if you need help with your account.

Change your schedule
Changing your schedule is not the same as withdrawing from the university.
Dropping a course removes one class from your schedule, but you remain enrolled at 快播导航.
Course schedule changes depend on when in the semester you make the change. Deadlines matter, and the process varies.
Before adding or dropping a course, it鈥檚 a good idea to pause and review your options. Small changes can sometimes have bigger academic or financial impacts.
Talk it through first
If you鈥檙e struggling in a course or considering a schedule change, you may want to start by talking with:
- Your course instructor, about support options or expectations
- Your academic advisor, to review academic implications and alternatives
In some cases, an Incomplete (I) may be an option if you鈥檝e completed most of the coursework and could finish remaining work with additional time. Incompletes must be approved by the instructor and are not guaranteed.
Consider your workload
Adding a course can significantly increase your weekly commitments. As a general guideline, most courses require about 3 hours per week (including class time and studying) for each credit hour.
For example, a three-credit course may require about 9 hours per week.
Your advisor can help you decide whether adding or changing a course is manageable alongside work, family or other responsibilities.
Understand potential impacts
Changing your schedule may affect:
- Financial aid (FAFSA)
- Scholarships
- Campus housing
- College Credit Plus (CCP) enrollment
Each of these programs may have minimum enrollment or participation requirements.
If you have questions about how a schedule change could affect your financial aid, scholarships, or housing status, you鈥檙e encouraged to contact Elizabeth Helterbrand, Financial Aid Coordinator for 快播导航.
- Email: helterbrand.5@osu.edu
- Location: Halterman Hall, Room 219
Adding a course or changing a section (such as switching to a different lab or lecture) is time-sensitive. The steps below outline what to do based on the point in the semester.
Through the first Friday of the semester
You can add courses directly in Buckeye Link during this period. Any fee changes are updated automatically.
When you submit a course request, you鈥檒l see a status message:
- 鈥淪uccess鈥 means you are enrolled
- 鈥淧ending鈥 or 鈥淓rror鈥 means additional action is required
You may need to complete a if you see errors such as:
- Requisite not met
- Section is full
- Time conflict
- Instructor or department permission required
- Enrollment exceeds 18 credit hours
Follow the instructions on the form to submit it for approval and processing.
After the first Friday and through the second Friday of the semester
To add a course or change a section during this period:
- Complete and submit a Course Enrollment Permission form.
- The deadline to add a course is the second Friday of the semester.
After this deadline, adding a course requires a formal petition to ATI Academic Affairs. Late adds are approved only when unusual or extenuating circumstances exist beyond your control.
You will receive academic credit only for courses in which you are officially enrolled.
Dropping a course allows you to remove a single course from your schedule while remaining enrolled at 快播导航. This is different from withdrawing from the university. The process depends on when in the semester you make the change.
Through the fourth Friday of the semester
You can drop a course directly in . Your fees will be reassessed automatically.
After the fourth Friday and through the 10th Friday of the semester
To drop a course during this period:
- Complete and submit a
- A 鈥淲鈥 (withdrawal) will appear on your academic record
If you stop attending a course without completing the drop process, you will receive a failing grade.
After the 10th week of the semester
Dropping a course after this point requires a formal petition to ATI Academic Affairs.
Approval is based on documented circumstances beyond your control.
- If approved, a 鈥淲鈥 will be entered on your academic record
- If denied, you will remain enrolled and are expected to complete the course
Take a course at another institution
Some students choose to take a course at another college or university and apply it toward their 快播导航 degree. This option can be helpful when a required course is not available or when scheduling conflicts make enrollment at ATI difficult.
Taking a course elsewhere requires advance planning and approval. Not all courses will transfer, and grades earned at another institution do not calculate into your Ohio State GPA.
Before enrolling, it鈥檚 a good idea to talk with your academic advisor to confirm how this option fits into your academic plan.
Ohio State only accepts transfer credit from accredited colleges and universities. Courses taken at unaccredited institutions will not transfer.
Before registering at another institution, take time to plan and confirm that this option fits your academic plan. In particular, you should confirm:
- How the course is expected to apply toward your 快播导航 degree
- Whether it will meet a remaining degree requirement
- That course dates will not conflict with your Ohio State enrollment
Planning early can help you avoid delays or unexpected issues later in the term. Your academic advisor can help you think through timing, degree requirements, and alternatives before you enroll elsewhere.
Before enrolling at another institution, confirm how a course is expected to transfer back to Ohio State and whether it will meet a remaining degree requirement.
Many courses can be reviewed using . If you use Transferology, save a copy of the page showing how the course transfers for your records.
If a course or institution does not appear in Transferology, you can . These resources include transfer credit policies and equivalency information for some out-of-state institutions.
In some cases, a department may ask you to provide a course syllabus to complete the review. It鈥檚 a good idea to save the syllabus and course description for any course you take at another institution, even if the course appears in Transferology.
Grades earned at another institution do not transfer to Ohio State and are not used to calculate your Ohio State GPA. However, some majors and competitive programs may consider the grade you earned when reviewing applications.
If you are taking a course at another institution as preparation for admission to a competitive undergraduate or graduate program, ask how that program evaluates courses taken outside Ohio State before you enroll. This can help you make an informed decision and avoid unexpected outcomes later.
If you are a current 快播导航 student and want to apply a course from another institution toward your associate degree, you must submit a Petition for Transient Status before enrolling.
This petition:
- Requests approval to take a course elsewhere
- Helps determine how the course will apply to your degree
- Is reviewed by the ATI Academic Affairs Office
Submit the petition early enough to allow time for review before the other institution鈥檚 registration deadline.
If you plan to take a course at another institution during the same term you expect to graduate, additional steps are required.
Instead of the Petition for Transient Status, you must complete a Waiver of Residency through the ATI Academic Affairs Office.
Before enrolling, verify that:
- The course will complete a remaining degree requirement
- All other degree requirements are complete or in progress
You should also confirm when the final exam is scheduled at the other institution. If the exam conflicts with commencement or occurs after the ceremony, talk with your academic advisor about how to proceed.
After the course is completed, an official transcript must be sent to Ohio State so the credit can be reviewed and applied. If final grades are not received in time for degree certification, your diploma may be delayed.
Withdraw from 快播导航
Withdrawing from the university is a significant decision. If you鈥檙e considering this step, support is available to help you understand your options, timing and next steps.
Withdrawing from 快播导航 is different from dropping a course. Withdrawing ends your enrollment for the term.
Before making this decision final, some students find it helpful to pause and review their options or talk with someone about next steps. Whether that means continuing this term, adjusting your schedule, or withdrawing, support is available to help you move forward with clarity.
To help make this transition smoother, 快播导航 provides a that walks through common next steps and reminders. You may find it helpful as you think through your decision and plan what to do next.
Note: If you are only trying to remove a single class, above.
Before submitting a withdrawal, talk with your academic advisor. Your advisor can help you understand how withdrawing may affect your academic progress, time to degree and plans for returning in a future term.
Withdrawal deadlines depend on the semester and session length. For full autumn and spring semesters, the 10th Friday is a common deadline. Missing a deadline may limit your options.
Federal regulations do not allow the university to backdate a withdrawal to a date earlier than your last documented participation in a course. Participation includes attending class, submitting assignments or completing required academic activities.
Withdrawing may affect financial aid (FAFSA), scholarships, housing and your student account balance. Before moving forward, you鈥檙e encouraged to contact Elizabeth Helterbrand to understand how a withdrawal could affect your aid or funding.

In rare cases involving emergencies or unexpected circumstances, students may be eligible to petition for a late withdrawal. Your academic advisor can help you determine whether this applies to your situation.
If you live in campus housing, additional steps are required.
You must:
- Notify ATI Housing in writing of your anticipated departure date
- Email: ati_housing@osu.edu
After withdrawing, you have 72 business hours to:
- Remove your belongings
- Return your keys
- Complete housing checkout paperwork
Housing charges may continue until keys are returned and paperwork is completed.
Before leaving campus, you should also:
- Contact your Resident Advisor at least 24 hours in advance to request a damage inspection
- Remove personal mail from your campus mailbox
- Return keys and complete checkout paperwork at the Applewood Village front desk
- Update your permanent address in .
- Mail is forwarded for 30 days after departure.
